ABOUT US
AWH Engineering College (AWHEC), established in 2001, is a self-financing engineering college managed by Association for Welfare of Handicapped (AWH), Kozhikode, Kerala. It is affiliated to the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU) and is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). AWH Engineering College is a co-educational institution established with the sole purpose of molding engineers of excellent qualities.
AWHEC is dedicated to helping students to learn and develop their skills and potential. Our faculty is committed to quality teaching and enhanced learning for students, preparing them for subsequent careers in professions and public services.
The college is located in a serene sprawling and evergreen campus spread over an area of 28 acres near Kuttikattoor. It is 26 kms away from Calicut International Airport, Karipur, 12 kms from Kozhikode Corporation bus station and 13 kms from Kozhikode railway station.
The historical city of Kozhikode is the hub for several educational institutions, including many prestigious engineering colleges, medical colleges, polytechnics, arts and science colleges, Indian Institute of Management (IIMK), National Institute of Technology (NITC) etc. Calicut is a beautiful coastal city known as the clean city of Kerala, the God’s own Country.
AWHEC offers 4 year B.Tech courses in five branches (Electronics & communication Engg, Computer Science & Engg, Civil Engg, Mechanical Engg, and Electrical & Electronics Engg), 2 year M.Tech Courses ( Structural Engineering, VLSI and Computer Science & Engg) and 2 year MCA program.

Management
AWH Engineering College is managed by Association for Welfare of the Handicapped (AWH),Pavamani Road, Kozhikode. All the AWH institutions including AWH Engineering College are now controlled by the Hon’ble Receiver Shri. Thazheveettil Mammootty, Retired District Judge, appointed by the Hon’ble High Court.
ASSOCIATION FOR THE WELFARE OF THE HANDICAPPED (AWH)
AWH is a pioneering welfare organization whose charity and service oriented activities date back to1970. The corporate office is in Kozhikode city. The visionaries of AWH wanted to make the organization versatile and unique capable of participating in the process of social transformation and hence focused their attention towards special education for mentally retarded and physically handicapped students as well as in higher education and technical education for all.
The education system conceived by AWH, by training students and instilling in them a quest for excellence and innovation with a resolute approach to productivity, global awareness and professional competence, has made its indelible mark in the field of higher education.AWH is committed to promoting and propagating quality technical education on par with international standards.
AWH Engineering College is a prestigious project of the Association for Welfare of the Handicapped (AWH), approved by AICTE, NewDelhi and affiliated to APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University(KTU) . Today AWH has 86 institutions dealing with all aspects of disability welfare and general, reaching over 10,000 beneficiaries annually. In fact, AWH is the only one of its kind under Muslim minority management in the country. Special education, higher education and technical education are thrust areas of the AWH. Several programs under the Human Resource Development are undertaken by the AWH. AWH is committed to promote and propagate quality education on par with international standards. It is our earnest ambition to groom talents and turn them into top quality professionals with high intellectual capabilities and strong moral values.

Administration
Dr. Sabeena M V has been serving as the Principal of AWH Engineering College since May 2018. She has got 10 years of industrial experience and 16 years of experience in teaching. She obtained her Ph.D from NIT Calicut, M.Tech (Structural Engineering) from Kerala University and B.Tech (Civil Engineering) from University of Calicut. Her research interest is in the areas related to Fibre Reinforced Concrete, High Performance Concrete; Application of Fracture Mechanics to Cementitious Materials; Strength and Ductility of Seismic Resistant Structures. She supervised 19 M.Tech projects and 10 B Tech projects. She has several publications to her credit in various international and national journals and conferences which includes Scopus and Science citation indexed journals. She participated in several workshops and faculty development programmes and organized one International conference on ‘New Frontiers in Science, Engineering & Technology’, at AWH Engineering College, Kozhikode.

Dr. Shahir V. K. is the Director of AWH Engineering College, Kozhikode, and a distinguished academic leader with more than 25 years of experience in engineering education, including over 16 years of academic administration. He has served the institution in various leadership positions, including Director, Principal, Vice Principal, Professor, Assistant Professor, and Lecturer, contributing significantly to academic excellence, institutional development, research, and quality assurance.
He obtained his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences, M.Tech. in Thermal Engineering from Anna University, and B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Calicut. He is also pursuing Master of Computer Applications (MCA) from Kurukshetra University, reflecting his commitment to interdisciplinary learning and emerging technologies.
Dr. Shahir’s research interests include Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Educational Technologies, Inclusive Education, Thermal Engineering, Renewable Energy, Sustainable Engineering, Computer Vision, and Natural Language Processing. He is the Principal Investigator of an AICTE-funded research project worth ₹34.5 lakhs titled “AI-Powered Classroom Interpreter for Deaf Learners,” aimed at developing intelligent assistive technologies for inclusive education.
He has published 15 research papers in reputed national and international journals, including SCI and Scopus-indexed publications, and has received 149 Google Scholar citations. He serves as a reviewer for Elsevier journals and has guided 22 undergraduate projects, 2 postgraduate dissertations, and co-guided research scholars.
Dr. Shahir has played an active role in quality assurance and accreditation as KTU Academic Auditor, Member of the Academic Council of APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, NBA Criterion Head, NAAC Coordinator, and Chief Superintendent for University Examinations. He has successfully coordinated an AICTE ATAL Faculty Development Programme and completed 36 Faculty Development Programmes in emerging technologies.
Committed to community development through technology, Dr. Shahir has initiated AI Literacy Missions for local self-government institutions and has submitted comprehensive district-level AI Literacy Project proposals to Kozhikode District Panchayat and Malappuram District Panchayat, promoting responsible AI adoption and digital empowerment.
Under his leadership, AWH Engineering College continues to strengthen its academic quality, research ecosystem, industry collaborations, innovation culture, and commitment to inclusive and technology-enabled education.
